Kamusta y'all!
So Diffun is still great, and it's December so it's time to get ready for Pasko! I put up paper snowflakes in our apartment so it feels like winter... it's still hot though. It's been a rough week because Sister Manumaleuga has some allergies/infections and we were trying to figure out her medication. But she's doing alright now, and we were still able to do some great work. We had several days where our plans all went wrong, but Heavenly Father directed us to where He needed us to be.
The other day I was studying a verse in Tagalog, when I noticed one of the words was translated in a way I didn't expect. It was 3 Nephi 12:48. "Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect." But in Tagalog, perfect wasn't translated directly to "perpekto."
Instead the Aklat ni Mormon uses the word "ganap" which means complete or whole. And I think that's a good way to think about it. Right now we're incomplete, maybe broken. The purpose of our life on Earth is for us to be completed. To gain the experience, knowledge, and attributes we need in order to be whole. Right now we're just a part of who we have the potential to become. It's hard for us to see the complete picture because we only have a few of the pieces. But I know that as we keep trying, keep learning, and rely on Christ's atonement, eventually we will become perfected or "completed" in Him.
So we're working on figuring out how to video call home. We're hoping we'll be able to do it at our Stake President's house (because they're mayaman.) But I guess we'll see. Sister Manumaleuga will have to figure out how to talk to her parents and her 8 younger siblings! (She has one brother too, but he's the youngest:) It's so crazy that we've had a language barrier a couple times in English because she speaks Australian english which has a different vocabulary. She also said Australians think American accents are cool, and was shocked when I told her we think the opposite. But it's been fun, and it's fun to surprise people with our Tagalog, even though we're both still working on it.
