Everyone is kawili-wili
Kamusta po!
I'm at the halfway point! I have officially been
here for 3 weeks and it has been incredible. It's so crazy to think that
only 3 weeks ago I knew like two words of Tagalog. I have learned so
much about being a missionary and about speaking Tagalog. Our teachers
have started teaching some of the new Tagalog districts, and they said
they really enjoy coming to our l class because they get to speak more
Tagalog. Which made me realize just how much Tagalog they use in class,
and how much we understand. We're approaching week 5, where we will be
expected to use 100% in class. I am sobra takot, pero sobra excited!
Our branch has been transitioning from Portuguese to Tagalog, and
the last group of Portuguese missionaries are leaving soon which is
super sad. But we've been getting a lot more Tagalog missionaries, and
it is so much fun to help them figure things out. Once you've been here
for three weeks you're pretty much a pro at the MTC. On Sunday we sang the hymns in Sacrament Meeting sa Tagalog at sa Portuguese. It was so cool!
On Wednesday
we got to host the new missionaries! It was so much fun! It felt weird
to be back in that parking garage that I haven't been in since I got
here. But I loved being able to help the sisters get kinda settled and
offer some reassurance that they'd figure it out. Two of the sisters I
helped are going to the Philippines, and one is learning Tagalog. Right
now there are more Philippines' language speakers than Spanish speakers.
Which is made up of three languages, but only one country so that's
pretty awesome.
One of the best moments was when we were
teaching one of our "investigators" named Greg. We had a great lesson
prepared, but then we were told we would only have about 10 minutes. So
we had to abandon our plan and just ended up sharing a scripture about
baptism. Then we invited him to be baptized and he said yes! (Actually
he said "Opo") It was so exciting, and I know were guided by the Spirit
because we had no idea what we were doing.
I love the
sisters and elders in my district. We have so much fun together, and I
learn so much from every one of them. I am so grateful to have such
wonderful people to rely on and to help me get through the hard days.
The MTC is such a wonderful place to feel the spirit and prepare to
share this wonderful gospel with others.
Paalam!
