Magadang Umaga!
Well I have officially been here for 2
weeks. This last Wednesday the MTC practically doubled in size. There
are so many people here! I'm really glad that I got here before and was
able to figure out the routine before it got too crazy. We already look
at the new missionaries and feel like we're so much more experienced
than they are. It's been so fun to see my friends from BYU every once in
a while. Every day is completely exhausting and completely fulfilling.
On Sunday,
Sister Barnett and I had to teach two lessons. We taught a lesson about
our purpose as missionaries for district meeting, and after church we
were in charge of a zone family history activity because we're the
"Technology Specialists." I know, I was concerned too. Fortunately my
kasama actually kind of is a technology specialist and has a lot of
experience teaching people about family history. The activity went
really well and our zone really enjoyed finding stories and several
people said they wanted to do it again.
As a district
we've been working really hard on improving our SYL (Speak Your
Language). Which pretty much means we try to speak as much Tagalog as we
can all of the time. It is so exhausting, but also really fun. We spend
a lot of our time preparing lessons for our "investigators." It's
really stressful, but they usually go well and we always identify
something we can do better for our next lesson. I've begun to be able to
form my own sentences! They're unconjugated, in the wrong order, and
probably don't make any sense, but I can pull them out of my head!
For our Tuesday
devotional we sang "Nearer my God to thee" in the MTC choir. The choir
director is the coolest person ever and he tells amazing stories. While
we were rehearsing he started telling us the story of Jacob. It was
great, but we were all like "bakit?" (why?). But at the very end he
explained that the words of the song describe Jacob's experience when he
see's God in a dream. I've sung/heard that song countless times, but I
had no idea what it was actually about.
Unfortunately,
getting visas to the Philippines has become very difficult recently.
There was a group of 30ish missionaries that were supposed to go to
there in the group before us, but only 4 got their visas. The rest were
temporarily reassigned to somewhere in the US. A few of us had a fast
the other day that everything would go smoothly with our visas, but I
know that whatever happens it will work out alright.
I
love being a missionary for Ang Simbahan ni Jesucristo ng mga Banal sa
mga Huling Araw. Every day I have a moment that makes me so happy to be
here, and so excited to serve the people in the Philippines.

ps.
I promise we're trying to point to the right flag, it's just hard. Also
it's hard to think of times to take pictures, because every day is
pretty much the same.
